I have always had a fascination and interest in learning new and distinct things. Being in an educational environment that offers important knowledge allows me to learn more outside of what I already know, which I think is incredibly fundamental for growing intellectually and as a person. One of the many things I love about learning is that when I am entering into a space that challenges me intellectually, I will most likely leave that environment with a deeper or newer understanding of something that I may not have known before. I also like that learning allows me to think and generate my own notions. In addition, I greatly enjoy learning about many topics and ideas with different people because each distinct topic introduces me to a new meaning, understanding, sense of awareness, etc. that I reflect on. What ultimately made me the student that I am today is the inspiration and admiration I feel when I learn something new. One can make an impact on people and on the world with what they learn and know.
What’s incredible to me is how impactful intellectual understanding and acquiring new information can be. For example, I recently went to a Dr. Martin Luther King jr. keynote speaker event and felt deeply inspired by what the speaker was portraying. The concept of the event was about the bravery, sacrifices, and the dissemination of ideas that MLK made in hopes of fulfilling his dreams of unifying the world. The keynote speaker said to “think of others outside of yourself,” which I thought was a wonderful emphasis on compassion and empathy. It resonated with me because I also want to help people, and one of the ways that I would like to help is by taking care of them. I can potentially do this by learning more about science.
Science has been intriguing to me ever since elementary school. Learning about different organisms and about what science entails is both satisfying and important to me. Science is also a subject that is essential for my biomedical science major, so I try to obtain as much information as I can because I know that science can be very beneficial. I also had great science teachers growing up and I’ve had amazing experiences with all of my science professors in college thus far. I am hoping to utilize what I learn to potentially go to PA school. Similarly, when interviewing my classmate Megan, she expressed how she also had great science teachers growing up. My interviewee and I also both play a sport and we think that playing a sport helps with resiliency; which is an important characteristic to have in the medical field and in life. Lastly, we both have a passion for writing because writing gives you the beautiful chance to express yourself.
Ultimately, I believe that my understanding of how invaluable learning can be to others and to the world makes me the student and person that I am today.
